The DA Haircut of the '70s Disco Era
I just saw someone make a comment on the club pages here at DiscoMusic.com that looks interesting for further discussion. He wrote that he was a long haired rocker type when his friend took him to a disco in 1974 and saw all the guys dressed in three-piece suits dancing with beautiful women. The next day he went to a hairstylist and traded his long hair for a DA. I instantly had flashbacks of begging my Mom not to let my Dad take me to a barbershop for a crew cut. Instead I wanted the cool thing which was a D.A.! Even back then that was not cheap.
Love to hear your stories about what you considered "the" haircut back in the 1970s.

Re: The DA Haircut of the '70s Disco Era
Don't know if it was different for the disco crowd (the east coast crowd, especially?), but to me THE 70s haircut was the long-but-above-the -shoulders, parted in the middle, feathered 'do. Think Shaun Cassidy or Leif Garrett.

I remember the commercials for Afro-sheen every time I watched Soul Train during the '70s. I think Don Cornelius must have gotten a huge cut of the profits on that one.
